SmileyDogs have owners, and cats have staff. Wink Wink Smiley

That said, I have both, and wouldn't have it any other way. They compliment each other. I cannot live in a home without animals. Tried it once, and lasted all of 3 weeks before rushing out and getting a puppy.

It depends on your lifestyle!  With a dog you have to make sure you have the time to walk it at least twice a day, and depending on the breed could  be at least an hour twice a day, a smaller less active breed you can get away with maybe once a day.  Dogs also need companionship, a little more than a cat does.  Cats are less demanding, so if you do not have the time to walk a dog, a cat would be an ideal pet.  It is also nice to have cats in  pairs.  Then you have to consider allergies.  More people are allergic to cats than dogs. But one thing to remember, regardless of which one you choose, they both deserve to be treat with love and kindness, and should not be neglected.

If you are going to get a dog - please KNOW that you have to walk it at least twice daily for at least 20 minutes minimum to be fair.

As for cats, they just need an address and a food bowl.

If you slip up, they'll let you know!

I never noticed this post.

despite my nickname...

i would still prefer a cat, for the exact reason Leuty mentioned. I think you should have an enormous yard if you want dogs or be absolutely dedicated to letting them get a good run and have lots of social activity.

I have a friend who brings her dogs to an off leash park every day for an hour. This dog is the world's happiest and most well-adjusted creature I hav ever seen.

But for me. a nice kitty cat.
